Samuel Starks military discharge, 1814 Apr. 21.

The military discharge, dated April 21, 1814, released Samuel Starks after a year's honorable service with Captain W.H. Puthoff's company in the 26th Regiment of the U.S. Infantry. The discharge provided a physical description of Starks and named his previous occupation of joiner so no improper use could be made of the discharge document. Samuel Starks was identified by the discharge as a native of Connecticut, holding the rank of sergeant. The discharge was issued at Detroit, Michigan, by Lieutenant Colonel George Croghan of the 2nd Rifle Regiment and commandant of the territory of Michigan and its defenses.
